Swedish massage acquired its name after the nationality of the man who made it popular at the end of the 17th century. The elements of treatment he brought together was taken mainly from Greece, Turkey and Egypt, so the origins are distincly Mediterranean.
One of the reasons for its enduring popularity is the versatility of its application. It can be used for improving circulation, getting rid of toxins, dealing with muscular tensions and sport injuries as well as for the purpose of relaxation and of relieving stress.
During a treatment I will usually perform some muscle stretches and afterwards try to suggest exercises that the clients can do on their own.
Of course, a massage should always be a pleasant experience; you should never feel that you need to have a "problem" to treat yourself to a treatment!
